Twitter – An Endless Exchange Of Information

<<em>strong>Twitter tweets are the hottest virtual thing since Facebook began reuniting old friends and enabling puppy love romances. Like Facebook and MySpace, Twitter is a new kind of online social network designed mainly to keep people updated on your life. Everything from celebrity tweets to crazy tweets are exchanged via this virtual message board.

Want to tell your friends about the great sale you just stumbled on at the mall? Or ask your buddies if you should ask that special girl out? Maybe you need advice on the best kind of stroller to buy or just feel like sharing dumb tweets about the latest lame joke you’ve heard. Twitter is the most current way to do all of that.

After only five years of existence, the booming network now has 200 million users, from the kid next door to A-list celebrities, who tweet about 200 million times every day. It’s the easiest way to keep an eye on celebrity tweets by keeping up-to-date on Lindsay Lohan’s latest bout with rehab or just stay informed on your bestie’s latest greatest break-up.

The concept of Twitter is much simpler than Facebook’s or MySpace’s. Users send and use tweets, short text-like messages of about 140 characters. Individuals use tweets to keep other Twitter users updated on their activities and may choose to follow other users. Everything from teenage crazy tweets to inspirational thought-provoking messages are communicated. This continuous sharing of information is what makes the most information-rich of all online social networking sites.

But be warned, when the premise of the network is to share what’s on your mind, you’ll be subject to some pretty dumb tweets. In fact, much of the info in tweets is pointless unless you know and care about the member you are following.

Dumb tweets will often share more information than you care to know. At some point you may stop caring if someone has been stood-up again or you might get sick of reading pointless venting about issues that have nothing to do with you. It’s best to purge your main Twitter page of pointless tweeting.

By default, all tweets are viewable by the public, so you may want to restrict and streamline your flow of tweets. The best way to avoid crazy tweets or annoying ones is to only choose to follow users that are relevant in your life or celebrities you like. It’s also the best way to prevent yourself from tweeting something you may later regret.
